Prologue: Christ, the Eternal Word
1 In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 He existed in the beginning with God.
3 God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.
4 The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
5 The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.

Hey just saw the line up and not sure if late or not but a good song for this is "In the Light'"!
DeleteI tend to shy away from "In the Light" because it doesn't feel like a corporate worship song to me - it feels like performance... thoughts?
DeleteAlso - just for discussion - with the new format, a "performance" type song for OFFERING feels like too much to me. That's why I chose a simple quick song for offering like SANCTUARY. Thoughts?

DeleteI think it will depend on the week. Sometimes the sermon/scripture calls for more of a performance song, sometimes it doesn't. Also, I think it depends on whether or not we do long or short doxology. I think what we've been doing is long doxology = short offering song and vice versa.
DeleteKeep in mind that the congregation has just been standing for four songs with the new format. The enjoy hearing the band "perform" for them as well. It's not such a bad idea to allow them to sit for a couple minutes and just enjoy the music. That can be a form of worship as well.
