Salt and Light
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

ReplyDeleteWhat do you all think about doing a Brethren Heritage service where we have the women and men sit on opposite sides?

The purpose would be to demonstrate that the source of our praise and worship is not the MUSIC, it's not the BAND. In the service I am envisioning, the band does not even set up. We sing all our songs in a congregational sing along with no instrumentation.
The band could sit at tables on the floor in front of the pews to demonstrate how the elders used to sit in front - not on a raised platform.
The focus of the worship would be to separate MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT from HEARTFELT WORSHIP that takes the form of an intimate corporate connection with God that we get when we come together and seek Him as a unified body. Pure worship. No additives. :)
I like this idea. My preference would be to sit with my wife though.

I had mentioned in another post that February was going to be a challenge for me. This service was already going to be difficult for me to attend and given the structure, if you go with a heritage service, you won't need me since women wouldn't have been in front of the church at that time, so I'll be sitting this one out.

It simplifies the music behind the Lord's Prayer which should make it more accessible for worship and less like people standing around with their eyes crossed wondering what in the world A(flat 5) and G#sus are. :) The new chart is called Manifesto v2.0.
